Utility Pedals

Hey All,
      So this will be a quick one. These are a couple of utility pedals that a past customer had asked me for. He was looking for a signal buffer and an A / B switch. He needed the A / B switch to switch between the volume and wah out put of his expression pedal. He wanted a buffer because...well he needed a buffer in he circuit. That is all. Well here they are there is no demo video only because...its kind of pointless. I acid etched the enclosures. Thanks for reading.

D-Verb rehoused

Hello all,
      Lets start with the easiest. A long time ago I build a mini reverb for my friend Darren (see LINK). He texted me and said that it was acting weird. It turns out that one of the jacks came loose and the threads got stripped. So I grabbed the pedal from him and decided to do a new enclosure for it. The paint was chipping on the old one and it needed a face lift. you'll see all that in the pictures. The circuit is a 1776 Rub-A-Dub reverb. The PCB layout was done by Jon Patton and etched by me. If you are planning to attempt this build BUY MORE THAN ONE ENCLOSURE. I can a;most guarantee you will screw up on the first one (if you're a dummy like me haha!).here are a couple pictures.

DVERB!!!

    So I finally finished the DVerb For Darren. I called it the dverb because its...well for Darren?! Well here is a little info on the curcuit. The schematic is a 1776 effects design. The layout was done by Jon Patton (midwayfair on the MBF). He had also suggested a couple mods to bring the dry signal up a little closer to unity. The 3PDT board I used is one that was designed by Rej at GrindCustoms. I used this because it had the pull down resistors on the board which made it easier to eliminate the popping of the switch when it was pressed. This was a VERY tight fit and it took a lot of measuring and test fitting to get it in to the 1590A. This is the first enclosure etch I have done and I think it came out pretty good. This is also the first reverb pedal I built. Lots of springy cathedral goodness in this singal knob pedal. Well without any more delay...here it is!

And yes I HAD to use the BIGGEST FUCKING TRIUMPHANT KNOB I HAD!!!!. Just seemed fitting. Here is a quick video I did too.

Sneak Peak

So a little while ago Darren asked me to build him a reverb pedal in the small Hammond 1590A enclosure. It took a little searching and asking around then someone in the MBF suggested I do Jon Patton's Rub-a-Dub. The board with the Reverb Brick just barley fits in the enclosure. Well with out getting to in depth (thats for the full write up) here is a couple sneak peak pictures.

Just a quick update!

Hello All,
    So I am now in a temp operating position. I threw together a workbench and solder station. I also started to assemble the Mini verb for Darren. I drilled the enclosure, populated the board and did a test fit. Every thing is lining up but its tight. I also got a few more orders and requests for more builds. I think I need to keep a spread sheet to keep track of who wants what. I also decided to revisit the Ringmod that I was designing a while back. I found a couple errors in the schematic that I drew in Eagle CAD. I did some shuffeling and I think I have a layout that will work. I will do an etch before I order a prototype for OSHpark. That's all for now, I will do a build report for the Reverb once I am done with it. Thanks for reading.

Just another update...

So I am just writing an update to keep everyone that reads up...well, to date. I haven't had much time to build or populate in the past couple weeks. My wife and I are currently trying to buy a house and it is a very taxing and time consuming process. That being said I did paint and decal a couple of enclosures but when I applied the clear coat the paint did some weird texture/wrinkle thing. So, I had to strip the enclosures and still haven't repainted them yet. I am hopping to repaint them this weekend weather and cold permitting. I also had a request for another build. My pal Darren from Mask & Raid requested a 1590A Reverb pedal. It's doable, gonna be tight but doable. I have a layout and everything, just need the enclosure. Then once I get the board built its time to paint and drill the enclosure. I'm going to try a "reverse etch" for the art on this. The 1590A is kinda small and hard to get graphics on so it might be a good candidate for an etch. Well there you have it just a quick update. See ya!

P.S. I think i found a better way to "fix" a miss drilled hole. But, more on this later.

Flanel Boost & Botany Boost

     These Two boost pedals are the same electronics. I did these custom for two customers of mine. The Flanel Boost was built for Darren Hawe. He plays guitar in a band called Mask and Raid. The Botany Boost Was Built For Robert Beal. He plays in a band called The Screen.
     The electronics are based on the AMZ Mini Boost. It is a vero layout of the schematic. I used some different components but stuck pretty close to the Schematic. Here are some pictures.

I was able to build both boost pedals in a Hammond style 1590A enclosure. This is a challenge do to the sheer size of the enclosure. I hope you enjoyed reading. There will be many more to come!
