Triton Delay

Hey all,
Long time. This is my build of Culture Jam's Triton Delay, I specifically love how it is so clean sounding and gets nice an wiggly when switching between the delay settings. There are no mods to this. Just a straight up build. I have another one that I am planning on combining with a fuzzy ring mod circuit too. That should be fun!! Anyways here are the pictures. 2 builds for Bruce

Hello All,
Here are a couple builds I just finished for my friend Bruce in Pray For Sound. The Admirer is a Hamlet Delay with a momentary feedback switch. The trimpot in the base plate controls when the oscillation starts  after pressing the switch. Hats of to Jon (midwayfair) for making a truly beautiful sounds delay. I absolutley love this circuit.
The second is a Sunn model T preamp. The PCB was developed by Benoit at Coda Effects. Super fun and very MASSIVE sounding. Thanks for looking.

Eye Ball Delay

Hello Gang,
       Last night I was able to wrap up yet another build. This one is a Madbeans Cave dweller "dub edition". What the dub edition means is that there are 2 of the PT2399 chips incorporated in this design. This (almost) doubles the available delay time.In this version two controls are combined (dwell and echo) and a "Mix" pot is added for extra texture. There are limitations with any PT2399 delay but this one certainly pushes those boundaries. One of the reasons I like this delay is, It's DARK! It almost resembles an older Boss DM2. Yes, I know, "Mike, no PT delay will ever sound as good as a DM2". Calm down, I said resembles. Anyways, This was Boxed in an enclosure that Dan Minner did for me...He likes eye balls. Which is cool with me, cause I like it weird! HAHA!, Well, here are some pictures. I'll get a video of it up soon. Thanks for reading.

Mimic Delay for Evan

Hello all,
     Long story short I started collecting comic books again and a friend (old co working for the music store) of mine offered me some Spawn action figures. I said i'd build him a pedal of his choosing for them. He wanted a delay. One of my favorite (might just be my very favorite) builds is the Hamlet Delay but Jon Patton. His use of the charge pump to boost the signal before the chip is genius, It's one of the best sounding PT2399 delays out there, I recommend it to all who haven't built one. This time I used effectslayouts version. I love Jon's layout but i wanted the external tone pot. I also wired the volume as a trimmer and mounted it to the base plate via a piece of vero board and stand offs. I also did a "Slam" mod to it. This is a momentary switch with a 22k resistor soldered to the lugs 2 and 3 of the "Repeats" pot. What this mod does is a ramping oscillation. As long as your foot is depressing the switch it will continue to oscillate. It's a pretty easy / awesome mod. Anyways, here are a few pictures for you. I'll do a demo tonight and post it asap.

Time to play "Catch Up"

Alright, so after the mahem of the lats build I took about a week and a half off from building. Now I'm gonna box up a few projects that I have sitting on my bench. Pretty sure I have 5 or 6 projects that are ready to be boxed. I remember building a bunch before Matt (the crazy multi build I just did) got in touch with me. I think I even have artwork for some of them too. Here is the list of stuff waiting to be completed.

So as you can see I have my hands pretty full for a couple weeks. I should blow through these pretty quick though. Most of them have been built and tested, They just need an enclosure and some art work. I might try and do a couple of face plates for the "fancier" builds (analog delay and voodoo vibe). Or maybe and etched enclosure here and there. We shall see. Thanks for reading!

Let the Madness Ensue...

Hello Again,
     Now let me first say that this was probably the most complicated build that I have ever done. There are 3 effects plus a order switch and an FX / blend option in this. It was very hard to wrap my head around but in the end I nailed it!! Here is the breakdown of the pedal.

**Main Circuit**
The main tone of this is based on the DBA Sound Saw. What this is, is a two channel frequency filter circuit. The bypass switch turns it on and the filter switch switches between the two channels. Channel one high lights the lows and allows more of a bass-y boost. Channel two accents the highs and mids giving the tone a cutting edge. There is a volume and filter knob for each channel.

**Fuzz Tone**
The fuzz section of this is modeled after the DBA Harmonic Transformer. This fuzz is EVIL! I love it. It is controlled by 1 knob and 2 toggle switches. In this built you'll notice that there are 3 toggle switches for the fuzz, the 3rd switch is simply an on / off option. The knob controls the over all fuzz volume. The switch on the left is the on / off, the switch in the middle is the sign wave switch (changes from triangle to square wave), and the switch on the right is an intensity switch. 

**Delay / Reverb Tone**
This is one of my favorite delay / reverb designs, the circuit is a Madbeans Moodring. This reverb is great and the delay is simple and easy to dial in. This has no on / off switch but the "Ring" knob essentially acts like an on / off. all the way to tho the left is off and all the way to the right is "muffin maker"! 

**Extra Options**
-Blend-
You'll notice that there are 2 extra jacks on the side of the enclosure. These allow you to add another effect and blend it into this circuit. The top jack is the send and the bottom is the return. The blend is panned from left to right. Left is no added effect and right is full effect volume (set on external effect) added to this circuit. 

-Order Toggle Switch-
There is also an effect order switch built into this as well. What this does is puts the fuzz in front or behind the reverb. This gives you a multitude of options. putting the fuzz in front of the effect will give you the "wall of sound" type of effect that a lot of guitarists go for.

So needless to say there was a lot to take in to consideration when building this. The enclosure was designed and etch by Dan at ADD Effects. He and I have worked together on several builds now and I don't see us stopping any time soon. Well that's all I have for now. Here are some pictures for you. I will get the videos posted soon. Holy MOTHER OF ELECTRONICS!!!

So a while ago a fellow builder (Dan Minner) and I started to collaborate on a multi build that was based heavily on the "post-rock" and "post-punk" genre of music. Specifically for ambient and textural sounds, more or less that "wall of sound" type effect. This was going to be very in depth and complicated for us. The original design of the enclosure/s was scrapped due to a fabrication issue and we ended up using the biggest Hammond Enclosure we could find. This resulted in a pedal that is almost the size of a sheet of paper. It's massively AWESOME. Dan did the layout for the knobs and all the art work on the enclose. I Etched all the PCBs and assembled this monster. Here are the Circuits that the pedal is made up of.

Way Huge - Red Llama Clone - This is controlled by the Level and Gain controls on the pedal. It is a fuzz type effect and also acts as the main on / off of the pedal. None of the other effects will come on with out this engaged. You can how ever turn the other effects on before engaging the RL.

Dead Astronaut - Flying Saucer Reverb - This is a VERY spacey / oscillating reverb. This is controlled but the Reverb Mix, Damp, Tone, OSC switch, and hidden Bright switch (red cap). This is probably the most versatile reverb I have ever had the chance to play with.

Mad Professor - Deep Blue Delay - This is a great clean sounding PT2399 delay. It leaves nothing to be desired in the delay field. This is controlled by the Delay Mix, Feedback, and, Delay pots. Great for those longer, almost oscillating repeats.

Parasit Studios - Sonic Reducer- Your 8 Bit MADNESS! This is controlled buy the 8-Bit toggle switch, Rate, and Resolution pots. This adds that extra weirdness that both Dan and I love. Plus Parasit Studios has some of the coolest original design effects out there.

Now this being my first multi build it was a bit of a challenge. I had to figure out how to wire 4 circuits together. Most people start out with 2, but no...I HAD TO DO 4! I did it though. Echo Base This is Star FOX

Hey Guys,
     Here is another one I've been working on for a while now. This is a MUSICPCB.com Echobase. It is a hyper filtered hi res delay pedal. There are 2 toggle switches the one under the "speed" and "depth" turns on the modulation feature. This gives the pedal a "fluid" of chorus effect. The other toggle switch turns on the "tails" feature. This will allow the repeats to finish out even if the pedal it turned off. I did the art layout on this one. I've been going back and forth on it for a while and stuck with the original idea I had. Hope you enjoy it.

Time to Verb it UP!!!

Hey Everyone,
       I know it's been a while and there are many reasons for that. First is I've been super busy at work and haven't had a ton of time to devote to building. Second is I've had a couple projects on my bench that have been giving me a lot of trouble. Third I tore my left calf muscle a couple weeks ago. The last reason has been tough, physically any ways. Getting up and down the stairs isn't the easiest with this stupid cast on.
   
     Anyways, here is one of the projects that has been giving me some trouble. Its a Madbeans Moodring. This wonderful circuit is a reverb, using the Acoustitronics Brick, with a PT2399 delay circuit incorporated to add delay in series with the reverb. The Delay portion of this is works with the reverb and blended in after the reverb. The delay "time" is labeled as "Space", If it is turned all the way down then the delay is off. The "Mood" knob controls the tone for the reverb. The "Dwell" knob controls how much reverb is fed into the delay / pregain stage. The "Ring" knob controls how much reverb is mixed with the dry (non affected) signal. Finally the switch labeled "Kill" is a dry kill. This cuts all of the dry signal out of the output. This allows for some really cool ambient sounds.

     This is by far one of the cooler reverbs I've played with. I love the tone and over all ambience of this pedal. I was able to get this in a 1590BB. It took a little fudging but I did it. The board was designed to fit in a 125b. The enclosure is a "mis drilled" powder coated enclosure from Pedal Parts Plus. I admit the In / Out / 9V jacks are a little awkward but I kind of like them like that. The Space Ship you see on the pedal is the Ishimura form the video game series Dead Space. To Delay, or not to Delay?

     This one has been in the works for quite some time...haha see what I did there. Anyways, This is a Hamlet Delay board that I purchased from a forum member over at MBP. The board was tested and verified by me when I first got it but I changed a couple things (components) and couldn't get it to work properly after that. It took about 8 months and another pot but I was able to get it going. The delay is nice and crisp sounding. I love the delay length you are able to get out of the pedal. Also the rhythmic delays sound really good too. The tone and overall level are adjustable via trim pots on the board. The circuit was designed for the "Tails" option, which I love. This means when you turn the pedal off it will repeat the last note played for it's set "cycle". The pedal uses a standard DPDT footswitch which means it is not "true bypass" but it also means that there isn't any "tone suck-age" in the guitar signal. These is quite a bit of myth around the "true bypass" movement and it's pretty believable. But that's a discussion for another time.
     One of the issues with most PT2399 delays, which this is, is that the PT2399 delay chip leaves a lot of digital artifacts or distortion in the audio signal. This is very noticeable on a lot of delays if you turn the Mix up with the repeats. It almost sounds like a "bit rate" noise. This pedal uses a charge pump or pre-amp and with proper biasing and delay level the pedal does not seem to have any artifacts or distortion in the repeats. It's really a great design. Hats off to Jon Patton (midwayfair) on this circuit.
     The pedal operates with the standard controls: Delay (this controls the length in between repeats), Mix (this controls the over all volume of the repeated signal), and Repeats (this controls how many repeats you would like for the "note" played). As I said above the overall level of the delay is controlled with an on board trim pot as are the tone and bias as well. The art I used was adapted (like that fancy word I used there) from an actual Hamlet Play flyer. The enclosure was a scratch and dent from Pedal Parts Plus. It was already powder coated the green sparkle color. Her are some pictures of the build. I will post a video later.

Vero(RE)bote 2.5 Build Report

Vero(re)bote 2.5
     Hello all. this is a build report for the Vero version of the Rebote 2.5 analog style delay by Tonepad. I originally started this for a friend but he decided he didn't need it. So, instead I am gonna give it to my dad. The layout was done by sabrotone and was very easy to follow and complete. The delay it self is very filtered and "clean" sounding. The controls are your simple delay controls: Delay; Level; Repeats, There is also a switch that allows you to get a bit more delay out of the pedal. The switch simply switches between two different resistors allowing for "long" or "short" delays.
     The finish on the pedal is inspired by Rej over at GrindcustomFX. He posts quite a bit of "worn" finsh pedals and I personally love the look. So I tried it. Here is the finishing process:
-Sand (500 grit) enclosure and clean after finished
-Rattle can paint and let dry for 2 or more days.
-Wet sand (1200 grit) until wear spots appear
-Clear coat optional
Here is the pedal. I will post a video demo when I get the chance to take one.
